Mt. Wakakusa in Nara, Japan
Mt. Wakakusa is one of the famous landmarks in Nara city, Japan. If you walk around Nara park, you can see the hill covered with grass on the eastern side, and it is the Mt. Wakakusa. The hight of the Mt. Wakakusa is 342meters so you can easily walk up to the top of the mountain.
The history of Mt.Wakakusa
Mt.Wakakusa was used to be covered with many trees in Nara period, but somehow the trees were cut off and it became like the present grass look hill by the Kamakura period.
When to see the view from Mt. Wakakusa?
The night view from the mountain is chosen as the one of the three most beautiful night views in Japan. You can see the lighted city of Nara and the one of Kyoto too from here. Even if you go to the Mt. Wakakusa hill on day time, you can see many deers walking around there and the view with a clear sky is also beautiful.
The location and access to Mt. Wakakusa
From JR Nara station or Kintetsu Nara station, take a “Nara kotsu bus” heading for “Kasugataisha honden” and take off at the final stop. It takes 5min on foot from there to the hill.
From JR Nara station or Kintetsu Nara station, take a “Nara kotsu loop bus (Clockwise way) and take off at “Daibutsu Kasugataisha mae”. It takes 10min on foot from the to the hill.
There is a temporary bus service which you can go to the mountain for seeing the night view. More info from here.
